I suppose there was some, as you say, malevolence of a sort in the early Smog stuff. When it was understood by others why I put it in there, it was a huge joy. I was going out on a limb and when I found there was weight for two people out there, it was such a joy.
I don’t think most people understood it. Maybe that means I failed. I give the greatest power to the audience. I give them the greatest respect. That is where a song lives or dies.
